this is a scale native to the Middle East which was used by the famous surf guitarist Dick Dale. it is essentially a Major scale with a flatted 2nd and a flatted 6th. a similar scale to this (it is the same scale but with a dominant seventh) has already been posted as an 'Arabic' scale. I don't mean to say that the 'Arabic' scale is wrong. I have never been taught that particular scale but I am guessing it is also a commonly used scale in the Middle East. this is just another one. this scale is movable Ex. in E ----------------8-9-- ------6-7-9--10------ --7-8---------------- ---------------------
