Song: The Hostage
Artist: Tom Paxton
Tuning: Down two steps

This song is only available on vinyl on the
"Piece Will Come" record. It was missing of
the latest Best of ... Cd.

This is my first ever tab. So its pretty simple
The basics of this song are here, obviously theres
more to it. And I think I'm off on a note or two
on one of the chords. If you have any changes (I know
there's plenty, just email them). This obviously isn't how
the guitar is played exactly in the song. I tried to combine
the guitar and bass part.

I'm sorry I don't have the lyrics, I've searched
everywhere. And I've only picked up part of the
song from listening. So if you have them, please
email them.

********************************************************

Barred chord progressions are:
Gm Ebm Gm Bbm Am

INTRO (after the little bass intro and a few strums
on the Gm chord):

D|-------------------------------------------------------------------|
A|-------------------------------------------------------------------|
F|-----------------7----7----7----10---10----9----9----9-------------|
C|----7----7-------7----7----7----10---10----9----9----9-------------|
G|----7----7-------5----5----5----8-----8----7----7----7-------------|
D|----5----5---------------------------------------------------------|

D|-----------------------------------------------------|
A|-----------------------------------------------------|
F|--------------7--7--7-----10----9--------------|
C|----7---7-----7--7--7-----10----9--------------|
G|----7---7-----5--5--5-----8-----7--------------|
D|----5---5------------------------------------------|

THE REST:

If you listen to the song, you'll easily figure
out the strumming technique. You basically hit
the base note and the strum twice on the upper
notes. Then it varies during parts of the song.

D|-----5--------1------5-------------8-------7----|
A|-----5--------1------5-------------8-------7----|
F|-----5--------1------5-------------8-------7----|
C|-----7--------3------7-------------10------9----|
G|-----7--------3------7-------------10------9----|
D|-----5--------1------5-------------8-------7----|

********************************************************

Here's how the first line of the song lines up with the chords:

Gm Ebm

I'm a guard in the grey iron prison, at least I was till now

Bbm Am

there was never a picnic social, never a day.

*********************************************************

And then at the end of the song, repeat that first
intro section.

'sup Shutes.
