I'd Like That - XTC

From the album Apple Venus vol. I

		transcribed by Howard Wright

This is a very nice one to bash out on an acoustic. There are
a few interesting/unusual chords, but most of them are fairly
straight forward. All chord shapes given at the end.

One thing to be aware of: for the intro and most of the verses
only the bottom three notes of the chord are played, so the
guitar part has a somewhat "minimal" feel about it. When the E
chord that comes just before each verse is strummed, all 6 strings
are played to give a contrasting "big" sound.

Intro:
------

A F#m7 E/G# D/F#

A F#m7 E

Verse 1:
--------

    A F#m7 E/G# D/F# A F#m7 E/G# D/F#
I'd like that if we could cycle down some lane

    A F#m7 E/G# D/F# A F#m7 E/G#
I'd like that if we could ride into the rain

                 F#
No macs, getting wet

            B F# B A
I'd be your Albert if you'd be Victoria, ha ha

     C#7 E7/G# G#7/B# C#m
We'd laugh because each drop would make me grow up really high,

                   F#m
really high like a really high thing

       E
Say, a sunflower

Note: the guitar chord(s) for the word "sunflower" are hard to hear
because the big vocal harmony kind of covers everything. I think a
basic E will work, but you could also try E B/E (E for "sun" and
B/E for "flower") which is the basic harmony of the vocal part.

    A F#m7 E/G# D/F# A F#m7 E
I'd like that

Verse 2:
--------

(Same chords as verse 1)

I'd like that
        What would you like?
If we could lay before my fire
I'd like that
        What would you like?
If you could slide me from this wire
Toasting fork, I'll be done
I wouldn't Hector if you'd be Helen of Troy, oh boy
We'd laugh because each flame would make me grow up
Really high, really high like a really high thing
Say, a sunflower

    A F#m7 E/G# D/F# A F#m7 E/G#
I'd like that

Middle 8
--------

F#/A# B Eb
I'd smile so much my face would crack in two

F#/A# B Eb
Then you could fix it with your kissing glue

    A F#m7 E/G#
I'd like that

         A F#m7 E/G#
Yes, I'd like that

A F#m7 E/G# D/F#

A F#m7 E

Verse 3:
--------

(Same chords as verse 1, exceot where indicated)

I'd like that
        What would you like?
If we could float away in bed
I'd like that
        What would you like?
If I could row your heart and head
With you laid on one arm
I'd be your Nelson if you'd be my Hamilton, what fun
We'd laugh because each stroke would make me grow up
Really high, really high like a really high thing

        E(VII) B
Say, a sunflower

        E(VII) B
Say, a sunflower

                E(VII)
Let me hear you say it!

      B E(VII)
Say a sunflower I became

       B E(VII)
I'd be growing in your rain

repeat the B E(VII) sequence to fade, (with optional
fast flamenco-ish strums and hand-claps!)
