Low E string played by thumb wrapped around neck
D string is your ring finger
G is your middle
B is your first
High E string can be played by rolling your 1st finger down to barr it

the whole point is to leave your pinky free to play some nice melody lines.
you can also use the pinky to make a full chord, that is, no "x", instead a "5" in this example.
this is how the opening chords should be played.
