At one or two points during the song, they only strum each chord once and let it ring until the change. After the second chorus, there's a part where he's singing something like "blah blah blah you know I know you know..." and the strums are muted. These are the open bottom 3 bass strings palm muted. To get a better sound, try to get the right side of your hand as close to the bridge as possible. At the last chorus, when he says "Now", the riff switches to this without going to the riff above and he sings the chorus again to this (yeah, confusing right? listen to the song and you'll hear it at the end).
