intro begins with the verse riff dubbed backwards(and in clean tone) but live
Hum plays the following riff(which is just the verse riff played backwards
anyway) with flanger and sometimes delay effects

okay the last bit before the distortion kicks in is Tim
playing the Bb chord and that high pitch sound in the 
background seems to be Matt doing some sort of pick 
scrape/slide by the pickups with the distortion and effects 
pedals on (experiment, you'll get it)

pre-solo  = this is what Tim does while Matt plays with feedback
tip= strum the open D while rythmicly bending the other notes

the solo is Matt pick scraping and sliding rapidly back and forth near the
pickups while coaxing some feedback(it sounds hard to play but all you need is
a lot of volume and distortion)
meanwhile Tim is playing the verse riff(and you may notice that you can hear
him accent the high notes a little better)
then after that play the chorus riff but end it on the C chord and go to outro
