Chicken Drop - Mojo Nixon and Skid Roper

Tabbed by Adam Bishop

There is only one chord during the "story" part of the song, E7, but you
have to slide up
from Eb7 at the beginning of each time around. If that makes sense :)

E7 - x7675x
F#7 - 242322
A7 - 565755
B7 - 797877

One, two, three, four

E7

Yeah I know some of you all been down to Louisiana, heard about Pope
Sallied Annie,
some of you all know about Amos Moses, yeah, born on the bayou, some of
you all might
even know about the funky chicken, but you don't know about this. I'm
gonna tell you about
the chicken drop. Now, what is a chicken drop? Well, you go to a bar on
a Wednesday night,
and in this bar they got a big hunk of plywood, 4 feet by 8 feet. They
got a hundred squares
on it, yeah and they got a hundred numbers inside each one of them
squares. That's one
number for each square, in case I'm confusing you. Now you can buy a
square for a dollar,
all the squares you want, depending on how many dollars you got. Then
they get a chicken
(chicken riff). Everyone starts drinking alcoholic libations, might
even be a fight or
something. I'll tell you more in a second.

F#7 A7
Everything's over the top
                   B7
Talking 'bout the chicken drop

(Chicken riff)

Here is the "chicken riff" by the way:
E|----------------------
B|--5--5--5--5--5--5h8-
G|----------------------
D|----------------------
A|----------------------
E|----------------------

There is more to it than that, in fact there is a lot of little guitar
noises all over the
place, but I can't figure them all out, so I just did the important
one. Of course, the
chicken noise is played on a saxophone or something before the guitar
comes in.

So you got the chicken, and the hundred squares on a big hunk of
plywood, and everybody
done bought a square now for a dollar. Now the person who wins all this
money, gonna win
a hundred dollars. Man, you can buy a lot of Mad Dog with that. Yeah,
so this chicken's
walking around, he's walking around kinda funny because he's got some
chicken Ex-lax in
him. That's uh, chicken-lax that is. And the chicken's walking around,
and what ever number
he does his business on, that's gonna be who wins the hundred dollars.
And everybody's
hollering, they want to win all that money, and they're screaming, and
they're going "Whoa!"

Chorus

Chicken riff

Yeah, everybody's in a tizzy, everybody's freaking out, everybody's
standing in a circle
around the plywood, they're looking at their number, looking at that
chicken, they want
to win the money. Yeah, and the chicken's walking funny because he
gotta go, man,
that Chicken-lax is working on him, and everybody's hollering their
number out, hollering
out all kinds of numbers and screaming. People seem to be saying this
one word, word
that rhymes with "fit." Yeah, they're saying this word loud and true.
Now some of you might
be going, "Uh, say, Mojo, I think I know the word you're talking
about." Yeah, it's the word
that rhymes with fit and everybody's hollering it. I don't know why I
can't say this word on
the record, I don't know why I can't say this word in this song. I can
say doo doo, I can say
poo poo, I can say excrement, I done already said feces on another song,
but I can't say
the word that rhymes with fit. Seems to me that some little old ladies
with blue hair, live
up in Connecticut, maybe friends with George Bush's ugly wife, yeah they
done made a
law, saying I can't say the word that rhymes with fit. But everybody's
standing around in a
circle, they're yelling the word, they're going "Fit! Fit! Fit! Fit!
Fit! Fit!" (yells)

Chorus

Chicken drop
Chicken drop
Chicken drop
Chicken poop
Finger lickin'

Yeah if you win you get to eat the chicken too. Where's Joanne, your
wife, when you need
her. Alright let's get out of here boys!

Chorus

End on E7

Plop plop plop
