# Date: Mon, 1 Jan 1996 12:24:02 -0500 (EST) From: Len Moskowitz Subject: There Stands The Glass (Ted Hawkins) THERE STANDS THE GLASS (Russ Hull/Mary Shurtz/Michael Pierce, Unichappel Music/Jamie Music BMI) (sung by Ted Hawkins on the album "The Next Hundred Years) Ted tuned his guitar to a "dropped D" (DADF#AD) and occassionally to a dropped C (!). He then capo-ed up to the third, fourth or fifth fret and played almost exlusively open chords. His right hand strumming technique was unusually relaxed and musical; in my opinion that's what accounted for his lovely sound. And of course, there's his astounding voice! This tune has the guitar tuned to dropped D and capo-ed at the third fret. I show the chords as the positions at which they are barred. VERSE 1 3 8 There stands the glass 3 8 that will ease all my pain 3 10 that will settle my brain 3 8 3 it's my first one today VERSE 2 3 8 There stands the glass 3 8 that will drown all my fears 3 10 that will hide all my tears 3 8 3 brother, I'm on my way BRIDGE 8 I'm wondering where you are tonight I'm wondering if you are alright 5 I'm wondering if(do) you think of me 10 in my misery VERSE 3 3 8 There stands the glass 3 8 fill it up to the brim 3 10 'til my toubles grow dim 3 8 3 it's my first one today SOLO (on verse) BRIDGE Repeat Verse 3 and end: "There stands the glass"
