Date: 26 Aug 1995 03:45:31 GMT Organization: Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Lines: 139 Distribution: world Message-ID: NNTP-Posting-Host: ustsu3.ust.hk It's been quite a while since I stopped playing guitars back in my high school years. This Summer I discovered Michael Hedges' music that changed the way I look at (acoustic) guitars. It tells me that it's OK to make sounds that don't make sense to people around me (lots of extended chords and harmonics:) Now, I find my self listening to a different kind of music and learning new stuff I never knew existed (thanks for making RMMGA an enjoyable and informative newsgroup.) I always love modal tunes. Here is my attempt to transcribe an easy-listening modal tune by William Ackerman. This TAB is my first time ever. I'm not sure if it follows any `standard' tabbing conventions. BTW, I have a playing-skill related problem with part C (see below.) I'd like to hear from finger-picking experts out there on how to practice picking a constant tempo arpeggio with the right-hand thumb while the rest of the fingers play a separate melodic pattern (some times in a different tempo.) -Budi. ----------------------------------------------------------------- "Balancing" by William Ackerman Album: "It Takes A Year" (WD-1003) Tuning: DGDGAD (a cross tuning between open-G and D-modal.) Note: Not drawn to tempo. The phrasing may not be accurate (kind of oversimplified.) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Part A: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ D||------------9-12-9h12p9--+----------0--------|| A||-------9h10--------------+-12----12-----0----|| G||-----9-------------------+-----0----------0--|| 4x D||---9---------------------+---0--------0------|| G||-9-----------------------+-0--------0--------|| D||-------------------------+-------------------|| D|-----------4-7-4h7p4---+-2-----2-2/4-----0---| A|-------4h5-------------+-------------------0-| G|-4---4---------------0-+-----0---------0-----| D|---4-------------------+---0---------0-------| G|-4---------------------+-0-------0-----------| D|-----------------------+---------------------| D|-----------4-7-4h7p4-+-7-----12-12p9-----0-| A|-4-----4h5-----------+---------------------| G|-----4-------------0-+-----0-----------0---| D|---4-----------------+---0-----------0-----| G|-4-------------------+-0-----------0-------| D|---------------------+---------------------| D|-----------4-7-4h7p4---+-2-----2-2/4-----0---| A|-4-----4h5-------------+-------------------0-| G|-----4---------------0-+-----0---------0-----| D|---4-------------------+---0---------0-------| G|-4---------------------+-0-------0-----------| D|-----------------------+---------------------| D|---------4-------+---------5-----|---------2-+-------2-|-------2-+-p0..| A|-4-----4-----4---+-------5-------|-------2---+-----2---|-----2-2-+-p0..| G|-----4---------4-+-5---5-------5-|-2---2-----+---2-----|---2---2-+-p0..| D|---4-------4-----+---5-------5---|---2-------+-2-------|-2-----2-+-p0..| G|-4---------------+-5-------------|-2---------+---------|-------2-+-p0..| D|-----------------+---------------|-----------+---------|-------2-+-p0..| slowing down ......................... pause ... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Part B: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Here comes those georgeous (tendon buster:) strumming sounds ...
