Date: Thu, 31 Oct 2002 07:34:16 -0500 Subject: c/cheap_trick/70s_show_theme.tab Artist: Cheap Trick Title: "In the Street" (aka "That 70's Song") Album: "Authorized Greatest Hits," "That 70's Show Presents That 70's Album: Rockin'" Original version performed by Big Star, composed by Chris Bell and Alex Chilton Additional music and lyrics by Rick Nielsen Original tab by Ben G. (guitarwanker900@hotmail.com) revised: Chris Clark Here's the complete corrected version of a crowd-pleasing song that's a snap to play, either solo or with a band. More than a straight cover of Big Star's "In the Street," Cheap Trick modifies the song's basic structure, transposing it from G to D (use a capo on the fifth fret if you want to be authentic and/or you can handle Chilton's high nasal whine), embellishing the main verses with a D9- C9-G progression (in the original, they're sung over the main riff), adding the "Dear Prudence"-inspired B riff after the "not a thing to do" chorus (the original simply vamps on A, played as E if you're using that capo), and changing the chords at the "yeah!" part before the main riff returns for the solos. There's also a bunch of new lyrics, substituting Nixon nostalgia for the chorus about jonesing for a joint (see "Surrender," which also inspired the "Mom and Dad" lyrics here, not to mention the "we're all alright" bit in the bridge), and all the Wisconsin references in honor of the TV show for which it serves as the opening theme. Recommended chord positions at the bottom. ### Tab: Guitar Tuning: Standard D Main riff e ----------------------2--3--2--I B ----------------------3--3--3--I G ----------------------2--O--2--I D -------------------O--O--O--O--I A -------------O--2--------2-----I E -O--1--2--3--------------3-----I D9 Hangin'...
