Pilgrims to the City of God Words and Music by Michael Card, Phil Naish, and Rob Mathes from the Michael Card album "Soul Anchor" (c) 2000 Mole End Music (adm. by Word Music, Inc.) Transcribed by Erik DiVietro, prchr2000@msn.com As near as I can tell, this song is played with the guitar 1) dropped half a step and 2) the low E string dropped an additional step. The result is this tuning, from low to high: C# G# C# F# A# D#. I have chosen to write the tab using this tuning, so if you play it in standard drop-D tuning, you will be 1/2 step higher than the recording. Because Michael Card plays a right handed guitar upside down, the guitar work is heavy in the bass strings. You almost have to think upside down to understand the progressions. Because of this fact, the tab is not perfect to the recording. I have had to alter some minor things so I could play it. Anyone who wants to correct the tab to make it match the recording a little better is welcome to do so. Really the chord progressions are D forms (C#m = Dm, F#2 = G2, etc). At least that was the easiest way for me to play it. This first two measures are just some ad-libbing with a C#sus chord, then MAIN RIFF D#-----------------|------------------|-------------------|--3--3--- A#-----------------|------------------|-------------------|--3--3--- F#-----------------|-2-0--------------|-------------------|--0--0--- C#----------3------|-----3s4----------|----------3--------|--0--0--- G#-3-h5-5-5--h5-5-5|---------3-3-5--5-|-3-h5-5-5---h5-5-5-|--2--2--- C#-----------------|------------------|-------------------|--3--0--- VERSE 1 C#m F#2(no 3)/E F#2(no 3)/C# C#m F#2(no 3)/E F#2(no 3) F#m G#m CHORUS Amaj7 B Amaj7 C#m C#m/E B A2 F#m7 G#m Amaj7 C#m E F# C#m PLAY MAIN RIFF VERSE 2 (same chords as verse 1) SING CHORUS then BRIDGE F#m7 F#2(no3)/G# C#m Repeat the last line of the chorus again.
