Lyrics:

Down in the land of Ancient Egypt,

Nephthys gave birth to a son named Anubis,

The jackal-headed God guided the souls of the dead.

"The hands, arms, belly and legs of the deceased,

Are identified with Temu,

But his face is said to be in the form of that...

Of Anubis"*

Bridge-"Unas standeth with the spirits,

        Get thee onwards to Amenti,

        Onwards, onwards to Osiris"*

In the Theban Recesion of the Death Book,

He plays some very important parts,

Especially in connection with the Judgement,

And the enbalming of Osiris.

In the vingette of the Funeral Presession,

The body is recieved by Anubis,

Who stands still beside the Death Book,

And he lays his protecting hands upon it.

BRIDGE

Chorus - Anubis, the God of Judgement,

         Anubis, guide Osiris safely,

         Anubis, Judge Him well,

Anubis, the Master of the Underworld.

Written in the mouth of the God,

"I have come to protect Osiris,"

In the Judgement Scene Anubis appears,

To examine the Tongue of Great Balance.

"May Anubis take my Thighs firm,

So that I may stand upon them,"

Watcher of the place of purifiacation,

Wherein rested the remains of Osiris.

BRIDGE

CHORUS

The duty of guiding the souls of the dead,

Round about the Underworld,

Was shared by Anubis and another God,

The God whose name was Ap-uat.

Anubis was the personification,

Of the Summer Solstice,

And Ap-uat the personification,

Of the opposite Winter Solstice.
